TRAVEL ALERT: M1 and A453 restrictions in place around East Midlands Airport until June 2019

Travel update, which may affect your journey to East Midlands Airport – valid to June 2019

Planning has been granted at East Midlands Gateway for a Strategic Rail Freight Interchange which will accommodate up to 6.00m sq ft of new distribution buildings of up to 1.50m sq ft and create over 6000 jobs.

In addition to this work, the Government has committed to upgrading part of the M1 to Smart Motorways during the same period between junction 23a and 25 (both directions), which will include a contra-flow speed limit of 50mph.

As part of the development and M1 upgrades, the road network around East Midlands Airport including the A453 and M1 will have restrictions in place from January 2017 until expected completion in June 2019, including reduced lanes, speed restrictions and diversions.

This will have an impact on your journey time to the airport so please plan ahead.
