Aberdeen

Home to Europe’s oil industry

Aberdeen keeps its wealth low-key, preferring genteel Scottish civility to American-style glitz. Bang on the North Sea, there’s a chill in the air, but that hasn’t stopped the city winning Britain in Bloom a record nine times. With 45 parks and gardens, you’ll soon see why.

Well-travelled tips:
-Like just a few other British deep sea fishing ports, the quality of fish and chips in the Granite City is second to none – try and you’ll see.
-A trip to Aberdeen’s Maritime Museum is more than a trip down memory lane. It’s a fascinating insight into the city’s principal industry, before and during the oil boom.
