Dinard, France
Known as the ‘Cannes of the North
It’s not for nothing that Dinard is with beautifully clean beaches, proximity to chic St Malo, and an upmarket (and sometimes celebrity) clientele. The town initially came to prominence as a playground of the wealthy during the French ‘Belle Epoque’ of the late 19th century... and coastline has since been beloved of artists from Picasso to Monet. Come, build a sand castle, and you’ll see why.

The town has no fewer than four broad sandy beaches. You’ll probably want to begin your adventure at the Plage de l’Ecluse and the Plage de St Enogat – the biggest and most popular – before finding your own hidden gems.
Must eat at:
Dinner around Dinard is a taste to behold, especially if you opt for Les Maisons de Bricourt, overlooking the bay of Mont St Michel in nearby Concalle. The Relais Gourmand Olivier Roellinger is the pick of the bunch.
Must be there for:
Things get decidedly like Blighty in the early days of October when the town puts its best foot forward during the annual British Film Festival.
Well-travelled tips:
· If you like your surf white and wet, then head to the nearby beach of Longchamps where surfies tend to congregate in numbers.
· Walking round the promenade of an evening is the thing to do... it’s made even easier by the nearby Gulf Stream that helps keep local temperatures a degree or two more clement.
