Diplomat Freight Services take the EMA Cargo Cup
In a tight race to the checkered flag it was Simon Tully of Diplomat Freight Services who took the EMA Cargo Cup in a rain affected race day at Whilton Mill for the 2011 EMA Cargo Go-Karting Day.
The day showed promise with a very fast and tight first qualifying session, however rain came into play and slowed the pace during the second qualifying session. Then, as the track dried during the heat races the lap times dropped until the final race of the day and the chase for the checkered flag and the increasingly coveted EMA Cargo Cup. Come the checkered flag just half a second separated Simon from Sam Heather of Air Charter Service, while 3rd placed Scott Warne of ACP Worldwide was a further 28 seconds behind.
The 'B' Final was an equally competitive affair, and even tighter at the end with just 6/10ths of a second between the top 3 drivers. First placed Bruno Micaelli, again of Diplomat Freight Services, was just 2/10ths of a second ahead of Aviation Solutions' Jamie Parker, with third placed Nick Gillham of Heavyweight Air Express just 4/10ths further back.
As the day got hotter and the racing came to an end it was time for a well deserved BBQ and a chance for everyone to catch up with faces old and new.
The EMA Cargo Go-Karting Day is our annual chance to say thank you to everyone involved in air cargo at EMA and we hope that those able to make it enjoyed the day. The event will be back in 2012 and we'll look forward to seeing you there.
