Haiti Earthquake
On the evening of Tuesday 19th January a plane carrying 30 tonnes of aid flew out from East Midlands Airport bound for Haiti.
Oxfam organised the shipment, which included water purification equipment and other health supplies, which was bound initially for the Dominican Replublic to then be freighted straight in to the heart of the quake zone.
Clean drinking water is an absolutely number one priority as its brutally hot in Haiti during the day at this time of year. The earthquake survivors are living in really squalid conditions so they're desperately needing clean water.
The UN says something like three million people in Haiti are in urgent need of relief supplies.
The flight was operated by a Meridian Airways DC-8 Freighter and handled at EMA by DHL / Aviation Solutions.

A second flight by Ilyushin IL-76 followed on Friday 22nd January, this time chartered by the British Red Cross.
A third flight, again for Oxfam using a Meridian DC-8 departed EMA on Wednesday 3rd February.
