Airport Bus Shortlisted For Top Award

Leicester Skylink, the direct hourly bus to East Midlands Airport, has been short listed for the prestigious UK Bus Awards in November 2007.

The service, which will have been operating for one year in October, will be up against Oxford Bus Company’s Airline service and Stagecoach’s Oxford Tube scheme in the ‘Express Coach Operator of the Year Award’.

From an unprecedented number of entries, the judges have selected a total of 85 projects, schemes, operators, transport authorities and operational staff teams who will gather at Old Billingsgate Conference Centre in London on 7 November to find out who the winners are.

Kelly McHugh, EMA Bus Partnership Marketing Executive, said,
“We are delighted to have been short listed for this award, which was submitted by the Airport, Arriva and Leicestershire County Council. The recognition of the hard work that has gone into developing Skylink shows how important the transport link is from Leicester to the Airport.”

Keith Myatt, Communications and Media Relations at Arriva Midlands, said,
“Since inauguration, Leicester Skylink has seen a substantial increase in patronage of both holiday makers and existing Airport workers. A team of dedicated drivers operate the service, which provides easy access low floor vehicles with a large luggage area. Stop specific easy to read timetable information is displayed at each bus stop along the route for the convenience of customers. Arriva Midlands looks forward to the future development of the Leicester Skylink in conjunction with the EMA Bus Partnership.”
