Arts

We’re committed to encouraging the success of the arts and culture across our region. Over the past few years, we’ve brought a huge range of art forms to those who wouldn’t normally have access to them.

This year we are proud to be working with a variety of organisations across the region, including:

Viva – The Orchestra of the East Midlands
East Midlands Airport is now into its third year of partnership with Viva. We support Viva’s ‘Perspectives’ project, a three year programme based in Leicester that celebrates the music of Black composers from the African diaspora working in the Western Classical tradition.

This project aims to engage the widest possible audience, offering the opportunity to explore new dimensions of orchestral music rarely heard in the UK, promoting participation and a strong sense of ownership within the community. The project uses new media and technology, involving young people in an integrated education project and culminates in a showcase of new music.

Although regionally-led this project is set to make national impact and is a first musical happening of its kind in Leicester.

Dance 4
Our partnership with Dance 4 is now in its second year. Supporting its Stamping Ground Festival, which has traditionally taken place in Nottingham, our involvement means that Dance 4 have been able to open-up the experience to audiences in Derby and Leicester, too.

The Spark Children’s Arts Festival
This year, we have supported The Spark Children’s Arts Festival as headline sponsor. The Festival took place across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland and has three main elements – ‘On Your Doorstep’, ‘At Your School’ and ‘In Your Theatre’. Its aim is to encourage children to enjoy and take part in the arts in its many forms – and by taking work out into schools and community venues, the Festival offers easier access for everyone.

Art on the Trail
Our partnership with Art on the Trail has gone from strength to strength and we a second piece of artwork for the Airport Trail has now been brought to life. The latest addition takes the form of a ‘Dog Tooth Violet Seed’ and was designed by pupils at Diseworth Primary School after a series of workshops with local artist Sarah Fiander, who then carved the final sculpture from a giant piece of oak.
