Education
Support for local education is of vital importance to us at East Midlands Airport, and is a thread that runs through a great many of the projects and initiatives we get behind.

'Up in the Air' is an educational initiative for Key Stages One and Two. For complete information, please see the Environment pages in our Community section.
Big Book
'Going to East Midlands Airport’ is an interactive story book designed for Key Stage 1 and 2 students, designed to be used on a classroom whiteboard. It follows the story of a family travelling through the airport to Jamaica. The book incorporates a series of interactive games teaching children about processes and procedures in an airport.

Take a Tour
We also offer an interactive tour of East Midlands Airport to give children an idea of what goes on in a busy international airport.
Secondary Schools
We are currently working to develop a comprehensive programme of structured activities for students of secondary school age.
We are keen to support careers conventions and days at secondary schools across our region. Please visit the Job Vacancies section of this site to find out more information about our careers support. Our employment team have produced a CD-ROM-based guide to careers at the airport which is useful for students and teachers alike.
Further and Higher Education
We work with local universities to support industrial placements, as well as offering work placements for students studying related courses.
Statistical Information
If you are looking for detailed statistics for a project or research document, then please visit the Civil Aviation Authority website which offers a whole host of regularly-updated information from passenger numbers to aircraft movements.
Work Experience
The East Midlands Airport placement scheme offers students an opportunity to spend time in some of the most exciting areas of the airport. These include the Information Desk, Air Traffic Control and Airfield Operations. Students will gain a real insight into the operation of the airport as well as learning practical business and customer service skills along the way.
As you might expect, places at the airport are limited and highly sought after, so if you’re interested in applying for a placement please read the important guidelines below.
- The airport is able to accept seven, one-week placements per annum.
- These placements will take place between April and October. Due to the nature of our business, these are the months when staff will best be able to accommodate students and offer them a fulfilling placement.
- Only one student will be taken at a time.
- Placements are offered to students in Year 10 and higher.
- Priority will be given to schools and colleges nearest to the airport.
- Priority will also be given to those who are studying a course related to our work.
- Applications are reviewed according to the deadlines detailed on the application form.
- If there is considerable interest for the same month, we may feel it necessary to allocate the place by conducting a mini interview prior to selection.
- Applications should reach us a minimum of four months before the requested placement date in order to ensure they are given proper consideration. Please be sure to check deadline dates on the application form.
- To apply, simply fill out an application form and send it on to the address on the form, or email it to workexperience@eastmidlandsairport.com
