Game For The Gambia

Holidaymakers from across the Midlands can sample two new luxury spa resorts with The Gambia Experience this Winter, direct from East Midlands Airport (EMA).

Following the success of the past two years, The Gambia Experience, TTG Travel Company of the Year 2007, now feature The Sheraton and Coco Ocean spa hotels to complement the African holiday destination.

The tour operator is also offering customers Tuesday and Friday flights this Winter. Holidays are available from November and run through until the end of April 2008. Prices start from £420 for a 7 night holiday, based on bed & breakfast accommodation at the 2-grade African Village hotel, inclusive of return flights from EMA.

New for 2007, passengers can combine luxury spa hotels with adventure tours including spectacular bird watching tours (over 540 different species!), the majestic River Gambia and Chimp Island. The Gambia Experience features a new twin centre option including flexible stay for 10 and 11 nights.

The Gambia is one of the smallest countries in Africa, situated on the unspoilt west coast, less than six hours away from the UK, on the same time zone but with temperatures in the 30’s. The Gambia is the perfect choice for a Winter sun holiday with uncrowded, golden beaches, friendly people and interesting exotic African culture, all adding to its broad appeal.

EMA Managing Director Penny Coates said,
“The Gambia is one of the Airport’s most popular Winter destinations and is a welcome return to the Airport’s portfolio for 2007/8. With more flexibility and a greater choice of luxury hotels, this beautiful destination is sure to have another successful season at East Midlands Airport.”

The Gambia Experience is also helping to strengthen East Midlands Airport’s commitment to the environment. The tour operator is to offset carbon emissions were possible by working closely with the Tourism Industry Carbon Offset Scheme (TICOS). This scheme offers passengers the chance to offset some of the damage flight emissions cause by planting trees in local villages in The Gambia. Each tree planted will offset the equivalent of 0.5 tonnes of CO2 over a 20 year period. The tour operator is also contributing towards the development of Solar Power with resort areas, decreasing heating costs up to 70%.
