Landscape and ecology
East Midlands Airport is a large site, much of which is grassland. We are keen to promote a species rich habitat and to encourage the local community to explore and enjoy the airport site.
Our environmental policy commits us to:
- Develop a landscaping and ecology strategy that, within the constraints imposed by the normal operation of the airport, seeks to promote the development of rich and varied habitats, to integrate the airport within its rural setting and to promote access to the airport site.
We’ve invested in a six mile walking trail, which encircles the airport, providing stunning views of both airport operations and our rural setting. The Airport Trail features a picnic site and locally produced artwork along the route.
We have sought to involve local schools in our work and have undertaken tree-planting sessions around the airport as part of the National Curriculum, further information can be found on our Community Relations pages.
