£2.9million hangar development underway
Construction is underway on a £2.9million hangar development pre-let to RVL at East Midlands Airport
MAG Developments and East Midlands Airport today announced that construction is underway on a new £2.9million state-of-the-art hangar, pre-let to aerial surveying, surveillance and aviation group Reconnaissance Ventures Limited (RVL).
Having relocated from Coventry Airport last year, RVL joins the expanding portfolio of businesses based at the airport, having signed a 20-year lease for the new facility with MAG Developments, the property and development arm of the Manchester Airports Group (MAG), owner of East Midlands Airport.
Located within the Maintenance Area at East Midlands Airport, the purpose-built 26,000 square foot hangar facility will house RVL’s engineering services and its fleet of 20 aircraft. It will be connected to a fully refurbished office block of around 6,000sqft, which will accommodate around 50 employees in RVL’s Operations, Administration and Commercial functions, as well as staff employed by the customers who base themselves within RVL Group's buildings, including the Environment Agency, Ordnance Survey and Blom Aerofilms.
David Roberts, Property Development Director for MAG Developments, said: “We are absolutely delighted to announce the agreement with RVL – pre-lets of any size remain extremely rare in the current economic climate, so not only does this project represent another significant investment in the airport and the region, it also demonstrates how our we are working with our customers to provide affordable and realistically deliverable solutions that meet their business needs.”
Other recent MAG Developments projects at East Midlands Airport include the 216-bed four-star Radisson Blu Hotel currently under construction, which is due for completion in October 2011, plus an 80-bedroom Premier Inn and a bespoke hub facility for Royal Mail.
Colin Dennis, Managing Director at RVL, said: “The business has evolved into one of the top airborne platform service providers in the UK with a number of prestigious contracts with private and public sector clients. This new facility is critical in enabling us to expand our operations and continue to develop our range of specialist services.”
The project is expected to take approximately 22 weeks to complete and will be completed to the BREEAM-rated standard of ‘Very Good’, the highest possible for this type of build.
Locally based construction company Bowmer and Kirkland (B&K) is the main contractor and the architects are URS Scott Wilson Ltd.
Brad Miller, Managing Director, East Midlands Airport, said: “We’re delighted that RVL have chosen to join our ever-expanding airport community. East Midlands Airport is a key business location within the region and a thriving hub, which plays a critical role in the global cargo network and supports many local and national businesses. This specially-designed new facility is a substantial development for the airport and offers RVL the opportunity to further expand in a key location.”
