Travel to work

Travel to Work survey 2010

The Travel to Work survey takes place every year to monitor staff travel patterns and behaviour.  This data provides valuable information and enables the airport to make improvements to the public transport network and roads surrounding the airport site.

Please complete our online survey if you work at one of the businesses on the airport site and you have not already completed the survey this year.  The survey takes no more than 3 minutes to complete and you can enter the prize draw to win a £500 bike plus more great prizes!

Green transport options available for staff

At East Midlands Airport there are many ways in which you can help the environment and get to work safely and more economically.

The Airport has excellent public transport links to the three cities, and safe walking and cycle path access points to nearby, surrounding villages.

Skylink bus services
The Skylink network serves Nottingham, Leicester, Derby, Loughborough, Coalville and many of the villages on route. Each service provides discounted travel for employees which can be arranged and purchased through the bus operator.

Timetables, routes and employee fares are available at the Skylink website www.skylink.co.uk

Annual Bus Pass Scheme
If you are employed by East Midlands Airport you may be eligible to apply for the annual bus pass scheme which allows you to benefit from tax savings up to 41%. For details on the savings you could make by paying on a monthly basis through your salary click here.

If you would like to register and find out more about the scheme please visit, www.salary-plus.co.uk/ema

The Airport is working closely with the other businesses onsite to encourage them to take part in this scheme. Please check the Salary Plus website to check if your employer is registered on the scheme.

Car Sharing
Car sharing on your journeys to and from East Midlands Airport has many benefits – social, environmental and financial – and you don’t need to do it every day to make a difference.

As well as saving money, reducing wear and tear on your car, freeing up parking spaces and cutting congestion, you may even forge some new friendships along the way.

Simply register and complete the details of your journey and add whether you’re offering or seeking a lift. The Liftshare website will search for appropriate matches, instantly finding potential drivers and passengers.

Car sharing to East Midlands Airport makes real sense:

  • It’s free to use – simply share travel costs saving you money.
  • It reduces congestion and pollution on our region’s roads.
  • It cuts your carbon emissions every time you leave the car at home.
  • If everyone just car shared once a week, it would generate a 20% reduction in the number of cars on the roads, the majority of which would be at peak travel times.

Cycle Routes
If you live in one of the villages surrounding the Airport, you may consider cycling to work. In the last two years the Airport has ensured a safe cycle access across the A453 from Diseworth, bike storage and showers in the terminal building for cyclists.

Please download the new Local Cycle Routes leaflet, which includes a map of cycle routes within 10 miles of the Airport as well as information for cyclists.
