Must see:
Take a drive (or a train) to historic Lincoln and pay homage to its magnificent cathedral. Famously used as a double for Westminster Abbey in the Da Vinci Code, it’s one of the best examples of Gothic architecture in Europe.
Must eat at:
The award-winning Hart’s, on Standard Hill in Nottingham has been picking up accolades in the city for years. Go, and you can expect fine dining with a local twist – and a great value lunch.
Must be there for:
The UK’s comedy fraternity heads to Leicester every February for the local comedy festival, which is now the UK’s most established celebration of the comic arts. A series of fringe events means there’s now something for everyone, even if you don’t much care for stand-up.
Well-travelled tips:
· Bring out the caveman in you with a trip to City of Caves in Nottingham, which, curiously, has more man-made caves than anywhere else in the UK.
· For a glimpse of the genius of Rolls-Royce, head to the Silk Mill in Derby, which has a whole array of locally produced aero engines on display.
