Nice, France

Nice

Right in the heart of the action on the pulsating (and pricey) Cote d’Azur

Nice is perhaps the French city in which to see and be seen. It boasts not only some of France’s most golden beaches (and therefore most golden people) but a blinged-up waterfront of superyachts, WAG-stuffed boutiques for super-shopping and achingly trendy clubs and cocktail bars. What’s not to like about it?

Must see:
It’s impossible to be an Englishman abroad in Nice and not do the celebrated walk along the Promenade des Anglais – named in your honour.

Must eat at:
A Nice institution, Le Chantecler is the best – and arguably most expensive – restaurant in town. Save your euros and book in advance, then let your tastebuds do the walking to 37 Promenade des Anglais. None of your senses will be disappointed.

Must be there for:
One of the key events on the French Riviera in the ‘quiet season’ is the Nice Carnival.

Well-travelled tips:
- If you’re travelling further afield, don’t leave the ferry to chance. Places are limited, especially in high season, so always book ahead and don’t risk turning up on spec.
- Get your art in gear and pay homage to some of Europe’s finest painters while you’re here. Nice is home to both the Musee Chagall and the Musee Matisse.

Visa:
British citizens do not need a visa to visit France.
