Aerozone Resources

The Aerozone offers a variety of pre-prepared resources for different age groups. A sample of these resources are shown below:

KS1 and 2 activity sheets

These have been developed to accompany students on a visit to the landside areas of the terminal. They all relate to the airport environment and the students can complete them in the terminal or in the Aerozone.

Terminal fact-finding missions

For older students (KS2+), we have fact finding activities, challenging students to go into the terminal and find the answers to various questions about the airport and some of the jobs within it.

KS3 and 4 Retail challenge

Designed for GCSE and A Level students, the East Midlands Airport retail challenge gives students the opportunity to come up with a new business venture for the airport terminal. Working in groups, students are tasked with creating a concept, brand name and logo, and then present their ideas to the rest of the group.

KS3 and 4 Career talks

Where possible, we can invite colleagues from around the airport to talk to groups in the Aerozone. This can range from Air Traffic Control to Security, Jet2 to the Airport Police. As long as you let us know what areas of the airport interest you, we will do our best to organise this. *Subject to colleague availability and operational requirements.

East Minilands

Within the Aerozone is East Minilands, our very own mini airport. This space has been designed to replicate the key areas of the terminal, to give students the opportunity to act out role play scenarios.

East Minilands includes check in, security, a shop, a café, boarding lounge and plane which is complete with eight aircraft seats and a trolley. This is an ideal space for younger visitors who wish to explore and learn more about the airport in a fun and interactive way. This is also a great resource for BTEC assessments such as Travel and Tourism or Customer Service.

In addition to these resources, we can work with teachers to create a day that is bespoke to you. You just need to let us know what you want to get out of the day and we will do the rest!

Air Traffic Control Simulator

A simulation exercise where a small group of students use our Mobile Air Traffic Control simulator which replicates the view from the top of our Air Traffic Control tower. Students are given the opportunity to speak into a headset microphone to give a pilot instructions just as an Air Traffic Controller would.
