Chambery is the cross road to the Alps and offers the shortest road transfer times to the ski resorts, flying to Chambery allows you to spend more time on the slopes. Head south and drive 10 minutes away and you are in the bustling provincial town steeped in history!

Head into town and you’ll certainly encounter the famous Fontaine des Éléphants (Elephant Fountain) which has drawn admirers and detractors in equal measure - just ask a local to tell you its nickname...

Stay in town for at least part of every Saturday and treat yourself at the local market, which is more akin to a farmers’ market, with the freshest cheeses, meats and Alpine produce.
Well-travelled tips:
Hire a bike for just a few euros from right in front of the train station and head on out – take the cycle route south if you want to explore the local vineyards.
Head a little north and you’ll meet the Lac du Bourget, the largest natural lake in France. A great spot to cool off in summer.
