Investing in our Colleagues
At the airport we actively encourage colleagues to get involved in volunteering opportunities and launched Sustainability Champions in 2010. Sustainability Champions is a programme that all East Midlands Airport employees can get involved in, by taking some time out of their day job to volunteer in the local community.
Volunteering is beneficial to both the business and the community, with community members seeing support for their initiative, and colleagues feeling motivated and engaged.
During 2012/13 colleagues were involved in a variety of Community Relations programmes ranging from working with visitors in the Aerozone, supporting the Princes Trust Team Programme and the Work Experience Programme, and getting involved in Mock Interview sessions. We also organised a number of one off activities which included World Book Day, Comic Relief Bake Off, working ar a local animal sanctuary and becoming groundsmen at Elvaston Castle.
As a key player in the region, we are committed to supporting our local community as part of the way we do business. That is why all colleagues who take part in the Sustainability Champions scheme are able to dedicate one working day per year to take part in volunteering activities.
