Fire and Rescue
The Fire and Rescue team at East Midlands Airport can respond at a moment’s notice to ensure the safety of all our passengers, aircraft and employees.
With 54 members of staff and four ‘watches’ – Red, White, Green and Blue – the team are kept at a constant state of readiness, and are able to deal with any number of situations, including:
- Aircraft accident
- Aircraft emergency
- Aircraft ground incident
- Aircraft standby
- Domestic fire calls
- Fire alarms
- First aid calls
- Fuel spillages
- Re-fuelling standbys
The Fire and Rescue service is among the most experienced at any airport in the UK, with a combined service length of 564 years – and rising!
New recruits attend the International Fire Training Centre on a six week course covering all the basic skills. Ongoing training – including training in first aid - is delivered at the airport fire station, covering the broadest array of scenarios that an airport firefighter could potentially face.
Did you know…
- There are two female firefighters at the airport.
- Our firefighters raised over £4,000 for County Air Ambulance by posing for their first calendar in 2007.
