You’ll find this photogenic Spanish city situated between Barcelona and Costa Brava. Its ancient defensive walls (Passeig de la Muralla) and the narrow winding streets of the Jewish Quarter (El Call) are wonderfully preserved. You'll find several pretty bridges straddling the rivers that run through the city and lots of waterfront cafes to hang out in and soak up some Catalan style. Climb the Baroque staircases to the entrance of the Cathedral of Santa Maria de Girona (which you might recognise from Game of Thrones). The ancient Arab baths and the Sant Pere de Galligants monastery also featured.
There's plenty of beautiful architecture to be admired in Plaça de la Independència, but nearby La Malabarista Vermuteria or La Tòria are less pricey for local vermouths, craft beers and delicious tapas. You can then embrace the pleasure of exploring the many boutiques and souvenir shops hidden around the city, before taking in the beautiful panoramic views from one of the many roof-top gardens.
