Passport Control

When arriving at East Midlands Airport you will be required to go through standard immigration and passport control procedures. There will be separate lanes for EU and non-EU passengers, while automated passports gates allow those with ePassports to bypass lengthy queues.

ePassport Gates

Border Force is committed to delivering secure, effective and efficient border controls and using new technology to assist in that process. An automated gate system is being introduced in the Arrivals Hall at East Midlands Airport for people with a new style ePassport. It uses facial recognition technology to allow passengers through the border without the need to see a Border Force Officer.

Eligible travellers will be holders of an ePassport containing a chip and logo on the front cover. This includes British citizens, EU/EEA citizens and Swiss nationals aged 12 years and over (if accompanied by an adult, you must be over 18 if not accompanied). No registration or application form is required. Non-EEA nationals can use the gates if they are a registered traveller. The gates are monitored by Border Force staff who will intercept those refused by the system and select some passengers for manual checks.

Customs and Immigration

Please be aware that all passengers will be required to pass through Customs and Immigration. Border Force secures the border and promotes national prosperity by facilitating the legitimate movement of individuals and goods, whilst preventing those that would cause harm from entering the UK.

After passing through Passport Control, you will enter the Baggage Reclaim hall, which is where you will collect your checked-in baggage. Check the information screens to see which carousel you need to go to. For lost and delayed luggage please view the Lost Property page.
