Inspiring Young People

East Midlands Airport Aerozone Education Centre

The Aerozone at East Midlands Airport (education centre)

As part of our commitment to inspire generations of young people, we have an on-site education centre here at East Midlands Airport known as the Aerozone. This centre is free of charge for school and college visits and provides an interactive and inspirational learning environment for children and young people aged 4 to 18. Since it opened in June 2010, the Aerozone has welcomed over 31,000 students.

The Aerozone offers a range of tailored interactive experiences and activities, linked to the curriculum. Students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in our hands-on, realistic, role-play zones and to explore a variety of careers on offer in the dynamic world of aviation and beyond.

The Aerozone is sectioned into zones based on key areas of the airport, including a check-in zone with a working tannoy, a security zone with hand-held security wands, a cabin zone with aeroplane seats and a flight deck with two Xbox flight simulators and much more.

We can also arrange a talk from a colleague guest speaker who can share their knowledge and expertise. Guest speakers have previously included: airline crew, police and fire fighters, airfield operations, customer services, security, border force and the sustainability team. We will try to match the speaker to your learning objectives where possible.

A self-led tour of landside areas of the terminal, a short walk from the Aerozone, can also be added to your visit. We have written a guide for teachers and we have trail sheets available for students.

Once booked, you will have exclusive use of the Aerozone. A member of the Education team will be available on the day to provide a welcome, answer questions, and guide you through your itinerary. Popular topics for visits include careers, STEM subjects, customer service, business studies, history of flight, people who help us, but visits can be tailored to support almost any subject.

The Aerozone has recently relocated to new premises on the airport site, within walking distance of the Terminal. It occupies the ground floor of an airport building used by other businesses. It has a secure car park and space for coaches to drop off/pick-up. Visitors are welcome to bring a packed lunch to eat in the Aerozone. You will be provided with a risk assessment and other useful documents in advance of your visit.

The Aerozone is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, between the hours of 10am and 2pm.
