Version 10 and later
At the airport we actively encourage colleagues to get involved in volunteering opportunities and as a result, we launched our volunteering scheme in 2010. This is a programme that all East Midlands Airport employees can get involved in, by taking some time out of their job to volunteer in the local community.
Volunteering is beneficial to both business and the community, with community members seeing support for their project, and colleagues feeling motivated and engaged.
During 2018/19 colleagues from around the airport were involved in a variety of community activities ranging from supporting the Aerozone education centre and work experience programme, attending mock interview sessions in local schools and supporting the annual flight to Lapland for children with life limiting illness. We also organised several one-off events which included World Book Day, Bring your child to work day and National Trust task days. In total 28% of all East Midlands Airport colleagues volunteered over 1000 hours during 2018/19.
As a key player in the region, we are committed to supporting our local community as part of the way we do business. That is why all colleagues who take part in volunteering are able to dedicate 15 hours per year to community activities.
