About Gran Canaria

Owing to its sensational white sandy beaches, year-round scorching temperatures and a pumping nightlife scene, Gran Canaria has long been a firm ‘Brits Abroad’ favourite. You’ll find Irish bars, full English breakfasts and Happy Hours aplenty, but there’s a calmer side to this Canary Island, too.

Las Palmas in the north is Gran Canaria’s capital city, but it’s much more chilled-out than you might expect. It’s packed with interesting architecture, glamorous hotels and resorts, and seductive beach bars and restaurants - visit La Azotea de Benito bar at dusk for cocktails and stunning views of the volcanic mountains while the close-by cathedral comes to life with twinkling lights.

Head to the south-west of the island to get away from the holiday crowds, where the petite fishing village of Mogán will charm you. It’s known as the ‘Little Venice of the Canary Islands’, with pretty whitewashed buildings covered with flowers, a weekly market surrounding the harbour, and lots of seafood restaurants overlooking the sea.
